This one may sound like it’s a “reaching for the stars” type of excuse, but it’s really one of the most common excuses out there. When is this excuse most commonly used? At the beginning of the year when moral is high, and determination is in our sights! That’s right; it’s New Years resolution time.
It is common for our New Years Resolutions to just come to an end – but at a snails pace. This is especially true for those of us who live in areas where snow falls or there is extreme weather. Georgia weather can the most bi-polar of them all. It will be sunny and 72 degrees on a light, breezy Monday in January, but by Wednesday our cars are covered in snow and its 17 degrees. With this kind of up down weather, we tend to take a sharp left turn down the road of unintentional change.
Uh, what does that even mean?
Well, it’s no secret that weather conditions play a HUGE role in our moods. Think about it; sunny days are primarily spent outdoors, active, and involved with friends and family. Cold, dark, and rainy days however… not so much. I don’t know about you, but after being cooped up for even just a few hours in my house, I am bored to death and want to scavenge my house for all things food related. Do you know what I mean? So many of us eat when we are bored and we eat when we are stuck. Willpower takes a backseat for a lot of us during these scenarios. It’s SO common, but that doesn’t mean is it inevitable!
We tell ourselves at the beginning of the year that we are going to shun cravings and get out more. We try to get on the fast track to the healthy life we want to live. But Georgia weather likes to put it’s foot down at the most inconvenient of times. How many of you bought all new workout gear and loaded up your refrigerators with healthy food, only to be slapped in the face by a snow or rain storm? How agitating has this been?!
So, your $300 of healthy food is ruined from the electricity going out in the snow storm and your new workout gear is collecting dust on top of your shelves. This just has to be a sign, right? A sign that maybe you just weren’t meant to be active or in shape.
That right there is the REAL excuse, guys.
Do you know the literal definition of the word “resolution”? There are two:
Resolution: 1. A firm decision to do or not to do something. 2. The action of solving a problem.
The next time the Georgia weather decides it wants to wake up in a bad mood and try to put you down, I want you to remember those two definitions. Don’t let nature be in control of your health and fitness life. YOU are in full control of your choices. Choose to make a firm decision with a positive action, so that you can solve your problem and crush those goals of yours!
