In my opinion, there is no greater season than fall. Fall is when football starts, tailgates are packed, the weather is ideal, and the air aromas are undeniable. You know what I mean, pumpkin spice is everywhere from cupcake icing to cough drops. The scent of apple, cinnamon, and clove is almost around every corner you turn – it’s great!

But it all seems to come at a price though, doesn’t it? Don’t you feel almost punished by enjoying one of the best seasons of the year? I know I sure do! Coming in at a close second to the weather, fall beer is one of my favorite things about this great season! Sadly, fall beer doesn’t exactly treat my body that great. It will pack on the pounds every single year if I don’t watch out. The same goes for tailgate and festival foods. Maybe this is your particular weakness during fall… buffalo chicken dips, sausage-cheese balls, hot wings. These are just tiny examples of the plethora of goodness that is fall foods.

So, what does the average person do this time of year to avoid weight gain? Well, I asked 10 active gym goers how they handled fighting the dreaded Fall Flab. You want to know what 7 out of 10 of those answers were? Hold on to your britches friends…

Cover it up.

Yes! You read that right. They said they just COVER IT UP! You aren’t surprised, are you? As unfortunate as it is, most people think it’s easier just to cover up our fall and winter bodies and deal with our weight gain just a little before the spring season. What most people don’t realize is that by the time spring rolls around, we haven’t just gained 5 or 6 pounds. No – the average weight gain during the fall/winter season is 12-22 pounds! I’ll be the first to tell you that 12-22lbs is NOT something you can just run off on the treadmill in a week or two.

Look, we are starting one of the best times of the year. However, there are still other seasons that you will want to wear less clothes and be more active! Covering up the pounds we gain with layers only hurts us in the long run. Enjoy all the fun and great foods and drinks that come along with this season. Just remember not to abandon your normal healthy habits and your active lifestyle.

Speaking of being active, why not try out our Active Group Fitness class?! Group Active is a class that focuses on all four elements of fitness: cardio, strength, balance, and flexibility. Try out this class and see if you don’t immediately look forward to coming back! It feels good to belong somewhere, especially with so many others like you. I promise you will feel like you belong at Gold’s Gym! SEE YOU IN ACTIVE!
