We all want them. Those abs on the bikini beach models on the cover of all the magazines. I know you know what I’m talking about. The abs mocking you as you stand in the checkout line at the grocery store with your bottle of wine in one hand and your ice cream in the other. It’s like those perfect abs are just staring right through your soul saying, “Wow. Do you really think you need that stuff? I mean, you won’t be getting abs like these eating crap like that.”

Something about that imaginary comment stuck with you and now you are ready to kick it in high gear. You aren’t going to let that those perfect abs taunt you anymore! You toss the ice cream and with a tear, you reluctantly put the wine back on the shelf. It was hard, but you did it! Now, it is time to workout! You know a few moves that are supposed to target your abs, so you do them religiously. You even print out a few “ab challenges” from Pinterest and add them to your workout board. You are doing those ab exercises every morning when you wake up and right before you get in bed each night. You are on a roll!

….or are you?

You start getting frustrated because you aren’t seeing a change and have no idea why. After all, you are busting your butt morning and night with ab exercises! You should see a difference by now. What is the problem?

The problem is that you can’t spot train for weight loss; meaning you can’t pick the place on your body that you want the fat to melt away from. In fact, continuing abdominal work every single day causes an even bigger problem. The problem with every day work on one part of the body is that your muscles aren’t getting an opportunity to recover. Your muscles MUST have a recovery period for at least 24-48 hrs. If you don’t take time to recover, you are just going to have constantly fatigued muscles that won’t grow or look defined.

Give your muscles a break! You will be happier with yourself if you are patient and particular in the process, trust me!

Come see us at Gold’s Gym and try out our BARRE class! It’s great for core strengthening and defining those ab muscles you are looking for! It feels good to belong, so come see us at Gold’s Gym!
