Everyone always wants to hear that there is a secret when it comes to being in shape.  Unfortunately, there isn’t a magic potion fit people drink each night or a special saying they chant in the morning. However, some of the traits that assist in making them successful with their weight loss and fitness goals can also help you.

1. Don’t over eat

You know that feeling of misery, guilt and complete disgust you get after you eat too much? Well, fit people don’t remember what that’s like. They managed to learn the art of self-control when it comes to eating. When fit people eat a meal, they know the signals from their body to tell them that it is time to call it quits – no matter how great tasting the food is.

2. Read ingredient lists

One of the most important things that all people should do when buying food is read the ingredients label before purchasing. Fit and healthy people make that a priority when buying food. By knowing what is in their food, they can be in constant control of what they are consuming. There isn’t any room for confusion.

3. Have a workout buddy

If there is one thing that fit people do that you should follow, it’s having a gym partner. A partner to workout with is someone who is holding them accountable and giving them a solid support system. Having that gym buddy provides them with motivation to really work hard. Not to mention, if they have even the slightest bit of a competitive spirit in them, having a partner makes it ten times more fun!

4. Be concerned with the nutritional make-up of food instead of calories

This is one of the most misunderstood parts of healthy eating habits. Most everyone has been brainwashed to believe that calorie counting is the way to success. When in reality, it isn’t at all. Calorie counting has become almost pointless in a sense. For example, say you eat something that is 100 calories, but 30 of those calories come from sugar and 20 of those calories come from fat. Doesn’t sound as good when you put it that way, does it? Healthy and fit people know the importance of finding out what makes up the calorie content of their food. They understand that the calories don’t mean a thing if the nutritional make-up is full of crap.

5.  Keep a to-do list

Fit people know that staying organized makes all the difference. Having a to-do list supplies them with organizational assistance in their busy and chaotic weeks. Keeping order and structure assists in keeping their minds clear and not clouded with all the business of everyday tasks. That way, they are still driven toward their goals but don’t get as overwhelmed and discouraged by all that needs to be done.

6. Wake-up earlier

It would be a very, very rare occasion for you to catch a fit person sleeping until late morning. They know the importance in waking up and getting their day going. Waking-up early provides them with more time to get things done and most commonly, it allows them to get in a morning workout. Morning workouts have been shown to provide happier days because exercise releases endorphins to the brain.

Well, what do you think? Can you see yourself making some changes in your life? Changes that will lead to helping YOU become one of these fit and healthy people I have been talking about. Now, there is no need to overwhelm yourself and jump in neck deep. Try making slow changes. Apply 1 to 2 of these traits a week and enjoy the feeling of gradual success in becoming one of the people that holds all the “secrets” to being a fit and healthy person.
