4 Foods That Will Keep You on Track This Season

During the days of summer, it seems at times that eating healthy is nearly impossible. Sunny days are filled with no shortage of pool parties, grill outs, beach days, lake days – you name it. More often than not, these events are fueled by burgers, hot dogs, creamy dips, and dreamy ice cream. It’s always been tradition, right?

I know the older generation isn’t a fan of my views on “love and food.” But I am here to tell you – food doesn’t have to be filled with unhealthy ingredients for it to be enjoyable. Mayonnaise, lard, and butter actually DO NOT have to be added to your summer food for them to taste good. None of these heavy, garbage filled foods are going to be doing you any favors this summer. Swap them out with the foods listed below to stay on track with your health and fitness goals.

AVOCADO

Avocado is such a versatile food. It can be used as a replacement for sandwich spreads, used in dips to replace the creamy/white bases, and can be added into fruit smoothies for a good serving of healthy fats. My favorite way to have avocado? FRESH GUACAMOLE – it’s just SO good! Mix some chopped onion, tomatoes, cilantro, lime juice, and a little bit of garlic powder into your mashed avocados for a healthy snack that will keep you full and happy!

DARK CHOCOLATE

Yes, I did just say chocolate. Dark chocolate is known for helping speed up your metabolism and is also just great tasting! Instead of grabbing the ice cream jug, consider getting a high quality, dark chocolate bar and keep it in the freezer. It will be a cold treat that will still satisfy your sweet tooth!

POPCORN

Now, don’t twist my words. I’m not telling you to go load up on a tub of buttered popcorn. Lightly salted or unsalted popcorn is actually an incredibly filling snack and lower in calories. My favorite brand of popcorn to snack on is Angie’s Boom Chicka Pop: sea salt.

BANANAS

Bananas make a great snack because it takes the body a long time to digest and process this delicious fruit. This causes us to continue to feel fuller for longer. For a little more flavor, add a tablespoon of your favorite nut butter spread!

Consider packing a cooler tote with foods like I have just shared with you. It will save you money from having to stop and pick up fast food and will also keep you on track if you are out at social events this summer!
