Learn two more key tips to help you get ready for summer – faster!
It is common to spend summer days out on the beach, at the lake, in the pool, or running around at concerts and other outdoor events. One thing all these fun activities have in common is the lack of clothes involved. Bathing suits, shorts, and sleeveless shirts are soon to be all over the place. Of course, there is the possibility that you have a few pounds to lose before you jump in to any of those clothes. Read below for my 2 best pieces of advice to get you confidently sporting that summer body!
1. Cut out the late night snacking
Everyone has done it at some point or another. You know what I’m talking about. The sneaking down the stairs in the middle of the night to get a few spoonfuls of ice cream. Or there is the sitting down in front of the TV with a bag of chips and mindlessly eating until you realize over half the bag is gone. Like I was saying, we have all done it. However, that is not an excuse for us to continue to live this way. This is always the first place I tell people who are working on losing weight and trying to change your lifestyle to begin. Late night binging and snacking are the biggest culprits of weight gain.
But why? Well, did you know that our metabolisms are at their peaks in the early hours of our day? That’s the part of our day where we have the most energy and are normally the most active and productive. Towards the end of the day our metabolism starts to wind down. During that time, if we are eating heavy, greasy, fatty, processed foods, they aren’t going to be metabolized the same as the food we ate earlier in the day. If you eat all that junk and then get right into bed to just lay for the next 6-8 hours, your body isn’t using any of that food in a beneficial way. It just sits in your stomach and slowly digests. This will build a layer of body fat over time. Cut the late night eating and keep dinner as the lightest meal of your day. Like I said, your body is winding down at the end of the day and not using your food as a readily needed fuel source. Keep that in mind before you run for the cookies at midnight!
2. Eat Slowly
I’m no stranger to all the food that comes with summer parties and events. It’s some of the best food of the year, in terms of taste. However, it can be some of the worst for you when it comes to your body. By eating just a little of this kind of food every now and then, you will be saving yourself a lot of body fat and regret. You will be saving yourself from even more of that, if you eat slowly. That’s right, slowly. One of the biggest weight loss tricks in the history of the weight loss world, is to slowly eat every meal you have. The reason for this is because when we eat faster, we can shove more food into our bodies. By doing that, we are also shoving in more calories and potentially more fat and sugar – depending on what is being consumed. If you can take a bite and count to 10 (slowly), then swallow that bite, you will notice that you become fuller, faster than you normally do. Remember to take your time when you eat; it’s not a race! I promise that you will feel MUCH better about yourself after each meal if you use this method.
