I am almost willing to bet my car, that you have made an excuse for not working out at least one time in your life. I know I have. I’m not proud of it, but I am definitely guilty of the crime. And truth be told, the excuses I have used are ridiculous. I have also heard some doozies from clients and friends. Below I have listed the top 3 excuses that people use to give themselves a valid reason to skip their workout sessions. I want to give you a little help. It may not be in the way you particularly want, but in the long run, I think you will thank me!
1. “I’m going to get sweaty and nasty. I don’t want to have to take a shower.”
Oh, please. I’m not asking you to go through the Tough Mudder course and then go to a Formal Ball. A workout doesn’t have to be messy and sweaty to be effective. For instance, a balance and stability workout can be done in 30-45 minutes. These types of workouts can result in extreme benefits without you dropping a bit of sweat on the ground. That’s not to say you should only do these exercises to achieve your long term goals, but a few times a week? Absolutely!
2. “I don’t want to drive to the gym, it’s just too far out of the way.”
Good grief. I know you didn’t just say that. Well, since you did and more than likely have before, I’ll shed some tough love on you. I will give you the benefit of the doubt because I don’t know where you live, I don’t know your finances and if they could be preventing you from getting transportation to the gym. However, what I do know is that you have a body and if you live in a house you are almost guaranteed to have a floor and at least one piece of furniture. Due to all of those luxuries, I am happy to announce that you now have THOUSANDS of workouts at your disposal! That’s right! You can get your workout done at home and absolutely get the results you are looking for! It’s all about your determination and dedication!
3. “I just don’t have the time to work out like everyone else does.”
This is probably my favorite excuse. It’s given ALL THE TIME and it is such a garbage excuse. I am a firm believer in the saying, “You make time for what you want to.” Meaning, if something is really a priority for you, you will find a way to make it happen. If you have time to sit on the couch and watch TV, you can do a home workout. If you have time to go out for drinks with friends, you can make it to the gym to workout. If you find yourself sitting around at home being lazy more than 2 or 3 times a week, you most definitely have the time to workout. I understand busy lives, believe me. But you get to make the choice of sleeping in another 30 minutes or going to bed 30 minutes earlier, instead of taking those 30 minutes and getting in your workout.
