I have written on this subject in similar ways before. My views on the overall topic still stand. I am actually someone who never ate breakfast as a kid. I mean, I genuinely HATED breakfast. I remember my mom and dad would literally stand with me in the kitchen and watch me drink down something like a glass of orange juice or one of those instant breakfast mixes you add into milk. I would gag the whole way through it. My body just couldn’t stand eating in the morning. I don’t know if it was just too early, all I know is I never liked breakfast as a kid. To be honest, I don’t particular like it that much as an adult. However, I understand its importance.
I have talked to others with the same struggle as I have and some who don’t eat, because they want to lose weight. They would skip breakfast and not eat until lunch. Some people would skip dinner and not eat again until breakfast time. I advise you not skip meals at all. Why? Because it can cause your body some serious damage.
Think about it. If you skip dinner and aren’t going to eat again until breakfast and you last ate lunch at around noon, that means you are going to go around 15+ hours until you have anything to eat again! Sounds kind of crazy when I put it that way, doesn’t it? What does this mean? Sure it is a long time to not eat, but what does that really do to you?
By not eating for extended periods of time, there are two things that can happen. The first is that your body begins a storing method. What happens is your brain tells your body, “Hey, we haven’t been fed in a while and it looks like we aren’t going to be for a while. So just in case, we need to hold on to the fuel sources we have.” Those fuel sources? Your body fat. That’s right. The body will hold on to your body fat, and it will hold on with a vengeance. Since it doesn’t have any idea when it is going to be fed again, it has to keep what it does have within reach.
The second thing that can happen? Your body goes into starvation mode. Have you ever seen those survival shows? You know, the ones where the people are dropped into the wilderness with nothing but a map and a knife and are told to survive for an extended amount of time? Well, if you are familiar with those shows, you know what those people look like at the end of their “adventure”. They are skinny and malnourished. They’re almost sickly looking, really. Why? Because their bodies have gone into the next phase. Their bodies are no longer storing their fat, but consuming it. That’s right. Once your body finally can’t take it anymore, it breaks into it’s storage bank and starts consuming itself. First, the body fat and then your muscle mass. Once this starts to occur, you can begin to have blurry vision and hallucinate. It can get seriously scary!
Do yourself a favor and lose weight the right way! Eat properly and workout. Don’t risk your life by trying to go the lazy way out. It can become a life or death situation, quicker than you might imagine.
