There is always something new on the market claiming to be the miracle solution for our body image issues. You guessed it – that miracle solution, is not a solution at all! I recently talked to a longtime client of mine, about a tea that she saw on TV, which claimed to aid in weight loss. She knows how I feel about schemes that try to reel people in and play on their vulnerability, so she was very well prepared for my response. “You know I don’t want to hear about that! Do you think that tea is really going to solve all of your weight loss problems? If that were the case, why are all these people here in the gym? Why do I have a job?” If that tea REALLY was the solution to end all the struggles of overweight people, don’t you think that everyone would be thin, trim and guzzling tea bottles everywhere we went?
That isn’t the case though, is it? The same goes for every single other product out there today claiming to be the king of weight loss. Take a look at a few of these “miracle” products. Are you guilty of falling victim to any of them? Keep reading to see…
I think if I had to pick my least favorite of all the marketing schemes out there today, body wraps would have to be the winner. Well technically, I guess that makes them the loser. Body wraps are all over the place! They claim to help you lose weight with just a few sessions. Body wraps can assist in weight loss and a loss of inches, BUT there is a catch my friends. These wraps aren’t pulling fat from your body – that is literally impossible. You CANNOT pull fat out from your pores. When you see pictures of people who have lost inches/lbs and credit their success to body wrap usage, they aren’t giving you all the facts. The inches that have disappeared are actually water weight. What does that mean exactly? Well, the wraps are constricting and do not allow your body to sweat in a natural way. They almost suffocate your skin, so that it is then forced to sweat in an unnatural method. That’s it – sweat. Not body fat being lost, but excess water weight (bloat weight) that is being removed. Yes, this offers up a loss in inches and weight, but as soon as you eat something packed full of salt, your body will return right back to a previously bloated state. So before you go wrapping yourself up with cling wrap or wearing trash bag suits to your workouts, think about what you are doing. If you want to sweat and have it actually benefit you, do it the right way in the gym, busting your butt!
What an extreme, yet enticing name for a weight loss product. Whoever thought up this catch phrase sure knew a thing or two about marketing. Fat “burners”, “incinerators”, “fighters”- they are all the same old thing, with different lingo. These products come in pill, liquid and powder form. They all claim to “burn up” your body fat. No, they do no such thing. Fat burners are made up of different ingredients that when combined, will send your heart racing and your energy level through the roof, along with making your brain think that your body isn’t hungry. When those things occur, it causes you to have less of an appetite. When you have less of an appetite, you don’t eat. When you don’t eat, you can lose weight. Now, keep in mind that when I say lose weight, I am not promoting this product. The weight loss that occurs from these products is due to your body feeding off of your fat reserves. Once your fat reserves run low, the body then starts to use muscle tissue for its feeding source. That in turn, will give you a very weak body, a forgetful mind and you won’t by any means be happy with your “weight loss”.
There isn’t a consumable, a topical or a wearable that will ever be in existence that is going to shed your body fat. Weight loss comes from effort; not from laziness. To achieve the lean and healthy body we all desire, we have to be willing to put in the time, dedication and effort that is required. Now, if you have any of these products that you have bought, I want you to do something for me…THROW THEM IN THE GARBAGE!
