You probably see them all the time. Whenever that one super healthy Facebook friend of yours goes to Arden’s Garden, they post a filtered picture of their smoothie with a quote under it saying something like, “You are what you eat.” Or there’s that jokester friend, who likes to go out for drinks, but still wants to keep their diet in check; so they put up a picture of a margarita with a caption saying, “Because no good story ever began with a salad.”
Sure, many of these little one-liners are funny, but some have a really great message. I have worked with clients in the past who have told me that they changed their entire lifestyle because of a phrase they heard at one point. It really ignited something within them, enough so that they changed their lifestyles completely and became super health conscious. That being said, here are a few of my favorite Health and Fitness quotes. Maybe one of them will strike you in a way that you weren’t expecting and will motivate you to make a big change in your own life!
• “If it came from a plant, eat it. If it was made in a plant, don’t.”
This is a pretty powerful one to start off the list; it really says a lot in only a few words. This quote is saying that the earth has long provided us with all the resources our bodies need to survive. Plant life has kept mankind and animals roaming this earth for a very long time – millions of years. Factory foods have only been a source of “food” in the most recent years. Factory/plant foods are produced in bulk and are done cheaply so that the seller can make an extreme amount of profit. Meanwhile, the consumers slowly but surely get sick and addicted to the foods that these producers pump out at a record pace. Keep it simple and stick to the roots of what your oldest ancestors did to survive. Eat the real foods that the earth has always provided us.
• “Every time you eat or drink, you are either feeding disease or fighting it.”
Most people forget that the sole purpose for food is to help nourish us and keep us alive. To them, that’s just a secondary benefit of it. To the people with this mindset, food is just something to enjoy and a way to show love. We were given food on this earth to keep our bodies fueled, focused and strong. But because of the progressive nature of the food industry, we are slowly killing ourselves, friends and loved ones. Fast foods, artificial foods, chemical filled foods and genetically modified foods are causing us all to become sicker than the human race has ever been through diseases and cancers. What you put in your body makes all the difference. You are making the decision to help your body grow and stay strong by feeding it properly, or you are choosing to hinder your body with processed garbage that wears a mask to disguise itself as food.
• “If you think wellness is expensive…try illness.”
Another one that speaks volumes. This quote basically explains the entire American way of thinking when it comes to eating healthy. So many people like to gripe and complain about eating healthy because they say it costs more. But does it really? Does that hamburger that costs 99 cents, actually cost more or less than the potential $50,000 or more that you could be stuck paying for the rest of your life in medical bills? It’s not that hard of a concept. The crappier and cheaper you eat now affects how expensive your future health expenses could be. Eat fresh and healthy now and you are much less likely to have doctors’ bills that are sky high.
• “Get fit in the gym, lose weight in the kitchen.”
I have harped on this in many of my previous articles. It doesn’t matter how much you run, lift weights or jump around; if you aren’t eating properly, you are NOT going to see the results you are looking for. Working out and eating correctly go hand in hand. You can’t have one without the other to succeed. Eating the right foods to energize and fuel your body will play a big roll in your ability to succeed in the gym. If you feed yourself garbage, you will feel like garbage in the gym. If you eat correctly, but don’t stay physically active, you will see little change in your physical appearance.
Maybe you have seen some of these quotes at one point or another, but never really broke down the words and looked into what they were saying. Use some motivational fitness quotes every once in a while when you are posting up pictures of you and your friends out to eat or being active. You never know who’s life could be changed because of one little sentence…
