We all have foods or drinks that if someone told us we couldn’t ever eat again, we would look at them in disgust and call them crazy. I’m one of those people too, believe me. If you have read any of my articles before, you know my one love is coffee. If someone told me I couldn’t have coffee again for the rest of my life, they would receive a few choice words from me. Well, I say that.
As much as I adore coffee, if someone told me some incredibly disturbing facts that I was in the dark about that had to do with my favorite drink, I would potentially reconsider. After all, nothing we eat or drink is worth putting our lives at risk, is it?
I have put together a list of 3 very popular (and very adored) foods that many eat. Take a look and see if any of your favorite foods possess some not so “tasty” qualities…
1. Smoke Flavored Meats and Cheese’s
Everyone likes the experience of grilling out and smoking meat on a summer day with family and friends. Because of that, there are some food companies that wanted to be able to give consumers that experience, but without all the hassle. So, what do they do? They decide to cut out the middle man and put smoked prepackaged meats and cheeses on the market for sale. Hot dogs, sausages, chicken, turkey and hamburger patties are just a few of the options that we can buy in a “smoked” flavor now days.
Ever wonder how that smoke taste comes about? If you thought that a happy little pit master in a “kiss the cook” apron was in charge of smoking these mass quantities of foods that the big name companies pack on to their shelves… you have lost your mind. Instead of that, what if I told you that they weren’t smoked at all? That these foods are actually sprayed down with cancer causing chemicals that have been created in a lab to give the foods we buy that “smoky” flavor that is desired by so many. There is literally n0 actual smoke involved. Just chemicals that have all been mixed together just precisely, so that they can depict a flavor that is close to the one we are familiar with. Yummy, isn’t it?
If you haven’t had Jell-O before, then you probably aren’t human. I don’t think I have ever met one person who didn’t grow up eating this as a child. Even as an adult it is a popular food. Why? Everyone loves the cold feeling of Jell-O in their mouth and the wobbly consistency it has. But, have you ever actually wondered what on earth Jell-O is actually made of? It’s not a vegetable and it isn’t a fruit, so what’s left?
If you reluctantly said “animals”, you are correct my friend. Jell-O is made up of none other than gelatin. What is gelatin made from you ask? Well, as repulsive as the answer is, it’s the truth. Gelatin is made by boiling tendons, skin, ligaments and bones in water. The most common place that these ingredients are taken from are pigs and cows. So, you vegetarians out there who are staying clear of animal flesh, you may want to get back on the hunt for another option.
Notice that I didn’t put this one first on the list. I wanted to make sure you wouldn’t roll your eyes and turn away. I know America and for some crazy reason they love bacon. I don’t know if it’s the texture, crunch or the saltiness but I have to tell you, this is one of THE WORST for you foods in the world. Aside from it being about 70% pig fat, it has an incredibly high sodium content. That sodium level isn’t so monstrous just because of the curing of the bacon, but it has to do with a much more repulsive fact.
Because pigs have very few sweat glands, they cannot rid their body of those toxins. Therefore they stay in the animal. Not to mention another gross fact, but pigs cool themselves down by rolling in piles of mud. Those mud piles are often filed with excrement as well. Pigs are some of the FILTHIEST animals in the world. In 2002, over 240 pork products were purchased for testing and the results came back showing that 83% of those products came back POSITIVE for containing E-coli and Salmonella.
Unfortunately, the sad reality is, a percentage of you will read this and say that you don’t care and nothing can ruin the foods you love. For those of you who have had a reality check and can’t fathom putting any of these foods back in your mouth or in the mouths of your families… CONGRATULATIONS! You my friend are one step closer to living a much, much happier and healthier life. Stay strong!
