Functional Training Primes Your Muscles
Your muscles and joints work hard every day at bending, lugging and lifting. You tote groceries, vacuum carpets, bend to pick up squirming toddlers or shovel heavy dirt. While your joints and muscles are amazing mechanisms, if not in proper shape, you may strain or injure them. Gold’s Gym Seattle North offers functional training, a high intensity workout targeting your muscles and priming them for the hard workday ahead.
Functional training uses your own body weight, resistance and free weights to increase your range of motion, improve your balance, boost your heart rate and power up your muscle strength. Here’s how it works.
Unlike strength training, which utilizes only specific muscle groups or joints (such as the arm and elbow), a functional training exercise also includes the shoulders and spine. Exercises such as lunges with weights not only build strength, they also improve your flexibility for ordinary tasks such as heavy lifting.
Functional training exercises are continually changing, too. After a certain number of repetitions, you’ll move on to the next set of exercises. This constant movement increases your heart rate, and the added aerobic benefit makes functional training a great weight loss solution for any physical fitness program.
At our Seattle gym, we have personal trainers available to get you started and coach you through your program. If you’d like to keep your routine novel and creative, switch up with some of the other services and amenities offered at our health club — such as group exercise training or cardio training.
