Bush’s “Machinehead” Voted Ultimate Workout Song In Gold’s Gym’s 3rd Annual March Music Madness Competition
Celebrities, Music Enthusiasts and Fans Alike Crown this Year’s Winner in the “Battle of the Bands” Competition Hosted by Gold’s Gym and Men’s Health
DALLAS, TX (April 25, 2013) – Gold’s Gym, the world’s leading authority in health and fitness, and top fitness publication Men’s Health announced today that “Machinehead” by Bush was voted as the Ultimate Workout Song for 2013 in this year’s March Music Madness competition. In a unique twist, the campaign featured a “Battle of the Bands” theme – meaning all songs were recorded by a band, duo or group − and included songs and collaborations from the past 50 years. Bush’s famed track from their 1996 debut album was nominated for the competition by BMX biker Mike Spinner and ultimately beat out 63 other heart-pumping workout songs to earn the top spot.
March Music Madness is a bracket-based competition created by Gold’s Gym to find out what gym-goers are jamming to while breaking a sweat. Celebrities and music enthusiasts nominated a song that personally motivates them in the gym, and these songs went head-to-head in the elimination-style tournament. This year’s competition included hundreds of song nominations from notable celebrities such as Will Ferrell, Mickey Rourke, FloRida, 50 Cent, Gabby Reece and Run DMC, as well as fans, members of Gold’s Gym and Men’s Health readers. The 64 most popular song submissions were chosen by Gold’s Gym celebrity trainers and fitness experts to compete in four fully-stacked brackets.
More than 40,000 votes were logged by people from around the country throughout the competition, but “Machinehead” by Bush emerged as the fan favorite out of the “Final Four” that included Eminem ft. Nate Dogg in “Till I Collapse,” “Party Rock Anthem” by LMFAO and GrandMastaz version of the Sir-Mix-A lot Classic “Baby Got Back.”
“There’s no doubt that music has become an integral part of the workout experience. In fact, studies have shown that music can increase the intensity of a workout by up to 15 percent,” said Dave Reiseman, Vice President of Communications for Gold’s Gym. “We brought back March Music Madness because it’s been a great way for fans to share and vote for their favorite workout songs, and maybe find a few some new additions for their playlists. It’s also a great opportunity to give back to a great cause.”
Another continued tradition of the March Music Madness competition, Gold’s Gym will donate $5,000 to the charity of Mike Spinner’s charity of choice, the Coastal Boxer Rescue of Florida, Inc., as a reward for his nomination of the winning song. The Coastal Boxer Rescue of Florida, Inc. is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to rescuing abused, abandoned and neglected boxers and securing homes for them.
