My daytime career was always in supervision, management and engineering in heavy duty manufacturing. To cope with the stress, a counselor mentioned yoga. I tried it and was quickly hooked –that was 20+ years ago. I have now been teaching yoga for 7 years and look forward to every class.
Years ago, in college during the hippie era, I learned much of the philosophy of yoga and always knew that it made sense even though it was complicated and hard to understand. Today when I teach at Golds I try to convey those principles in everyday language that relates to today’s world. I have read extensively on the mind body connection and find it fascinating. Making members healthier is more than just pumping iron, health is about really thriving in the body you have. Strength, balance and flexibility in the body need to be balanced with peace, joy and happiness in the mind. In today’s society, more than ever, this remains an elusive goal. I focus my teaching on this integration by trying to make each class a little different, challenging different muscles groups and take a lighthearted look at where we are in our lives. I have always been good at art and design, coming up with new class ideas feeds my need for creativity and keeps the classes fresh.
I am now semi -retired and spend much of my time with the family including helping with daycare for 2 of our 4 granddaughters. We have downsized and live in a townhome near Towson.
