Like many instructors, I became interested in teaching group exercise as a way to stay in shape and to hold myself accountable. Additionally, I knew that instructing would help me to improve my public speaking skills. I was a campus tour guide in college, so I had some experience speaking to large groups but there is always room for improvement. My first format was BodyStep, which is a natural attraction for any former cheerleader. Shortly after joining the team at Gold’s, I had the opportunity to participate in another instructor’s certification video for GRIT. After completing the workout, I knew immediately that I needed to inquire about becoming a GRIT coach. Several months later I hit the ground running to assist with the launch of the GRIT program at Marley Station. I’m only about 18 months into group exercise, and I am very much looking forward to more opportunities and format certifications in the future!

What led you to group fitness? After I decided not to play sports in college I was faced with a challenge to remain in shape. I worked out 4-5 days a week while I lived on campus, and I joined Gold’s when I moved back home after completing undergrad. I watched a lot of classes in the Group X studio, then I finally worked up the courage to attend one. I still remember my first class; it was BodyStep back in 2013! After about two years I really got addicted to the program and I promised myself that I would go for the certification after I completed graduate school. Surely it must have been fate, as there was a BodyStep training in Baltimore less than a month after graduation.
How do you spend your time outside of the gym? When I’m not at the gym or at my full time job, you can expect to find me reading, watching movies, or cooking!
