My journey in this industry started far from fitness. Growing up, I wasn’t particularly active and my diet was poor; at an early age my weight suffered, and I developed insecurities. After many years, one day I stopped accepting the reality I created for myself: it was time for a new, healthier reality. My parents supported me and I joined Karate which helped me begin to get into shape and develop the confidence I needed to continue on my journey.
I was inspired by a good friend and fitness mentor, an ex British Paratrooper, to study Exercise Science in college. At this time, I began boxing and became a Resident Assistant for athletes; I experienced first hand the stresses athletes have, and helped them work through it. I continued developing my sensitivity and caring for others, which translates now to all my clients. Everyone has stresses that affect their performance as well as morale, and I began to understand this relationship early on.
After college, I studied rigorously and took the exam for the National Strength and Conditioning Association’s “Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist”, which is widely regarded as being the gold standard for essential knowledge and application for athletic performance professionals. I was later accepted into the NSCA internship program and traveled to Colorado Springs to work with and learn from the top trainers in my field. This gave me the opportunity to gain experience working with DI, DIII, Olympic, Professional, Impaired, Tactical (Firefighters, EMT, Military, SWAT), and everyday athletes. Through this time I learned, modified, and continued developing my own systematic training strategies. Working with pressured high level athletes and Tactical populations helped me to develop programs that ensure success, motivate, and develop resiliency in a positive environment.
Proper & practical programming, injury prevention, having fun, and believing in my clients are what I live by. With the right support system, anyone can accomplish more and be stronger than they ever believed they could be. I believe everyone should have access to the best training available, not just elite athletes – because everyone is an athlete in their own way.
