Name: Norma Jeanne Byrd
Hometown: I was born in St. Louis, MO and moved to Captiva Island, FL when I was 19. My love for plants started when I worked for a landscape nursery on Sanibel Island. This passion evolved into a career in natural area conservation and management which eventually led me to Kentucky where I met and married my husband, Joe Rosselot. We moved to southeast Florda in 1989 when I became the director at Blowing Rocks Preserve on Jupiter Island. We’ve lived in Palm Beach Gardens since 2002. I graduated from the University of Florida.
Role at Gold’s Gym: Zumba Instructor
List Fitness Background and/or Certification: After retiring from a 30 year environmental career, I got hooked on Zumba® and became an instructor in 2011 with licenses for Zumba®, Zumba Gold® and Zumba® Toning. I also have my AFAA Group Exercise Certification and Silver Sneakers Licenses for Classic, Circuit and Yoga. I’ve been a Zumba® instructor at Gold’s Gym since July 2012.
What do you love most about your job?: I love to see people getting excited about fitness, losing their inhibitions and having fun while getting a great workout.
Random “Fun Fact” that most people don’t know about you: I got a phone call from the White House as a young professional and thought it was a joke! It wasn’t. I was nominated and received an award from the President’s Council on Environmental Quality for my work with native plants and natural areas in Florida.
