Katy SmallwoodCertified Personal Trainer
I love being a personal trainer. Love it. I love sharing the knowledge, love, passion & necessity of living a healthy fit life with my clients...or anyone who will listen. Personal training changed my life. It can change yours. Promise. In a previous life, I was a Special Education Teacher. I have my Masters Degree in Special Education with a specialty in Severe Disabilities. I loved it. I loved working with people who had to overcome challenges...I like a challenge....The theme of my life. In 2004 came maternity leave and then two children of my own over the next 4 years...both born with disabilities....and so my story goes on...we ALL have a story. September 2007. Five months postpartum with my second child....who was born with a significant disability. I was 45 pounds overweight. Completely Exhausted. Overwhelmed. Achy. Esteem in the basement. I attributed my physical state at the time to pregnancy & postpartum complications until...a biopsy of my thyroid showed cancer. WHAT? Me? Cancer? NO WAY! January 2008 I had a total thyroidectomy along with multiple lymph node removal. The wake...a metabolic hurricane which seemed to render my body an overweight shapeless formless mess. Lucky for me, through Golds Gym, I worked with an incredibly knowledgeable personal trainer...and he changed the game for me. He showed me how to take control & master my own health & physical fitness. A consistent sound exercise program and a clean diet turned my ship around! Over the course of the next 4 years I have lost the weight, competed in and placed in several local and regional figure competitions, gotten in shape & fallen in love with personal training...so much so that I decided to get certified and become one in 2010!!! Currently, I am pursuing certification as a Cancer Exercise Specialist. Having cancer changed my life. It is a part of who I am and why everyday I intend to make the most of what I have. I hope to convey my passion to pretty much every one I meet everywhere. Grocery store. Kohls. Target. Gas station. Everywhere. No matter what the excuses, no matter what the story. Believe in yourself. Make every day count. Living a healthy fit life will add years to your life and you will never regret investing in yourself. |
