In 1986 I was smoking better than two packs a day. Being out of breath when walking up stairs, overweight, drinking too much and living in a wrecked body, something had to be done. Reluctantly I put the cigarettes away and started exercising. I have not returned to smoking and I have been doing some form of exercise sporadically ever since. 1986 to 1995 was my time for a lot of Step Aerobics and Country Western dancing. 1995 to 2006 was sometimes filled with Step Aerobics, Gym Combat routines and minor weight lifting but it was also a time when I often neglected my fitness.
Late 2006 or early 2007 my wife and I joined Gold’s Gym Killeen and that was a great decision. Except for vacations, injury recovery and hunting seasons, I have been going to Gold’s Gym Killeen several times a week. This has been a very good experience for about 6 years. The BodyCombat class is my “cup of tea” since I do fairly well with it and do not hurt myself much. A few years back Mark Fenske took over as Gold’s Gym Killeen manager and this was definitely an improvement. Mark has managed the Gym very well and he often walks throughout the Gym area with a smile and word of encouragement for all that he meets. Currently when I walk through the door to check in a I get a big smile and a greeting from Linda Schneider and/or Colby Burton. Colby always has a complimentary word. Out on the Gym floor or in the BodyCombat class I see Group Fitness Manager Ursula Pirtle and she is definitely my favorite instructor in the Gym. She always has a smile and words of encouragement for all who she encounters. This lady sets an excellent example of what fitness and attitude should be. Ask her any fitness question and you will get an expert answer. I often see her talking to and encouraging people who are having difficulty working on their fitness. Gold’s Gym Killeen has some great people on the staff and I enjoy them very much.
Why do I exercise? I continue to work toward my fitness. Also it’s a treat getting all that encouragement and so I really do enjoy Gold’s Gym Killeen personnel. What more could I want? My sincere “Thanks” to the Gold’s Gym Killeen team.
