DOING A 180 ON DIABETES: THE GOLD'S GYM WORLDWIDE BURN-A-THON TO STOP DIABETES
On November 7th, Gold’s Gym Challenged Individuals to Come Together to Burn 180 Million Calories (50,000lbs of fat) In a Single Day.
The Burn-A-Thon Challenge is Part of the Movement to Stop Diabetes and Raise Critical Funds for the American Diabetes Association.
Overview: The International Diabetes Federation estimates that more than 246 million* people around the world have Diabetes. As part of its commitment to fight the disease and in honor of American Diabetes Month, Gold’s Gym hosted The World’s Largest “Burn-a-Thon” to burn millions of calories…to signify the magnitude of the disease and to raise dollars in support of the American Diabetes Association’s movement to Stop Diabetes. (*As of 2007)
As part of the collective effort to reach this worldwide goal, each gym was responsible for burning 275,000 calories on November 7th. Members, friends, and family came in to Gold’s Gym Winchester to burn calories on that day. Gold’s Gym provided a “calorie burning chart” that listed all of the activities in the gym and the related amount of calories they can burn (example, 45 minutes of cardio = 500 calories.)
The Burn-a-Thon included the use of spin bikes as well as other cardio equipment to reach our goal of burning 180 million calories in a single day. It allowed all members (including those that do not participate in spin classes) to participate by doing any form of cardio in the gym.
You can still contribute to the cause even if you missed the event by donating $1.00 at Gold's Gym Winchester to the
ADA
to receive a Burn-a-Thon t-shirt pinup. Write your name, the name of a loved one, or a message and we will post it on the front desk!!
