Wenatchee's Best Personal Trainers

Our Fitness Philosophy

Humans need exercise that mimics the stressors that were required of our ancestors to catch lunch, keep from being lunch, build shelter, win fights, outrun predators, migrate to more plentiful food sources, protect their young, and generally survive.  All of these things can be mimicked with strength training, cardiovascular training, functional training, and flexibility work, and can be done without the stress or worrying about being eaten. Therefore, all people need SOME of each of these exercise principles.  The amount of each depends on the members' current capabilities and objectives.

My story might sound familiar to many of you. Hopefully it will encourage and inspire you to know that, no matter what shape you're in today, becoming more fit and healthy can totally transform your life, not just your body.

Growing up pretty secluded, having been born in Colville, WA and raised here in Wenatchee on the Colockum, I was never into athletics or fitness at all. I spent my childhood slightly overweight, which got worse as I reached my teenage years and early adulthood. In high school, I hated P.E. classes feeling awkward and uncoordinated. I took only the required courses and stuck with Math, English, and Home economics, etc...(The things I was good at.) All during this time, I tried every diet that came along. I'd last for a week, sometimes only a day or two and go back to eating bad or even worse than before. You have all heard the term Yo-Yo dieter? That was me! By the time I was 25 years old, I was married, had two children and soon after, my weight was somewhere near 190 and my self-esteem somewhere near zero. I was afraid to meet new people or go to outings such as family reunions, where I was quite sure everyone was talking about me and how fat I was. Once again I tried dieting, Weight Watchers, Nutri-system, etc... where I had some measure of success.

When I joined Gold's (The Training Station back then), I had never set foot in a gym before. I had no clue what to do and felt completely intimidated by the atmosphere. I had pretty much given up on ever being in shape. I wasn't even really sure what "in shape" meant. I only knew that I wanted to look better. So off I went, I started attending group exercise classes and doing the same workouts over and over, which I did for two years! (PLEASE DON'T MAKE THIS MISTAKE! Ask us to update your workout often. The body is amazing and will adapt quickly to whatever you are doing.)

After five years at the gym, I was in OK shape, a lot more healthy and having the most fun of my life. I decided to really get with it and hire a personal trainer. That was the best thing I've ever done for myself. I soon learned what intensity was all about. I can seriously say that I got more results in 10 weeks (20 sessions) with my trainer than I had gotten in the five years without him. My body transformed, but more importantly, my whole personality changed. I felt more confident than ever before, more aggressive toward life. I certainly attained more knowledge about workouts, and was stronger physically than I had ever been. I got to a point where I really loved training hard. How intense could I go? How strong could I get? Could I keep my form flawless? For once I excelled at something I had really never even tried before. People started noticing the changes, telling me I looked good and questioning me about what I had been doing. I explained that everyone should have a personal trainer because the results you get with one are just not possible any other way! It's worth every penny!

Sharing my experience and helping people with equipment or form just came natural to me. It was so much fun that I decided to go for my Personal Training Certification. I often tell people how privileged I feel to work here. This truly is a job I do because I love fitness and working with people on a one-on-one basis.

My non-fitness back ground gives me a unique angle behind the trainers' desk here at Gold's. One I'm sure many of you can relate to. My goal is to let you know that you too can experience the life changing transformation that a fit lifestyle can bring. I look forward to helping you achieve. That life!

Choices, if I had to choose one word to help define fitness and lifestyle goals, it would have to be choices. I don't like the word "diet", or the phrase "I have to go work out". Again, it's all about choices. We all make many choices every day, and how we find support for those choices is why I chose to become a personal trainer at Gold's Gym Wenatchee. I wanted to be part of something that focuses on helping others achieve their specific goals. Gold's Gym has a strong reputation for helping members in the community achieve their goals.

My role as your personal trainer is to support you in your choice to become as fit as you choose to be. I will lead you in exercise and strength movements that will push you physically and offer support to you as you make your choices on nutrition and lifestyle.

In school, P. E. was always my favorite class, and in a way I guess it still is. I love to exercise! And as much as I love everything about the gym, I equally love to go for a good run or a nice long skate ski in the winter. I enjoy pushing my self just see what it can be like.  That is why I wanted to be here at Gold's, to help others achieve their own level of fitness and to have them feel the joy that comes with that achievement.

Fitness is a part of our lifestyle at home as well. My family and I participates in many outdoor activities. We mountain and road bike, hike, skate ski and just about anything else that looks like fun.

We, the trainers here at Gold's, are committed to helping individuals achieve their own specific goals, and you can definfelty count me in.

Cara Thomas, MA

Stretch Therapist

I am crazy about stretching!  I worked as a personal trainer for several years before I was stretched for the first time.  I was pretty sore from a hard workout and a little worried about how I would feel.  It felt incredible!  My legs felt loose, the pain in my back went away.  I knew at that moment that I needed to learn how to make other people feel that way.  I got certified through the Flexibility and Sports Performance Sciences Institute and went to work at a Physical Therapy clinic.  During that time I worked with clients with many different needs from professional athletes to clients with scoliosis.  I can't think of a better job than mine, where I help people feel better and let go of their pain every day!

I stretch clients fully clothed on a massage table.  This assisted stretching is the most effective way to restore flexibility and function to muscles and you will feel amazing changes in record time.  My clients should expect a greater range of motion, reduced muscular soreness, increased balance and symmetry of the body, improved posture, endorphin release and pain reduction.  Knots and old scar tissue from cumulative trauma and a host of other muscle dysfunctions can release, restoring the muscles to their optimal state.  Facilitated stretching techniques have unlocked shoulders, hips, relieved chronic back pain, and solved many medical mysteries where traditional medicine approaches have failed.

Live well.  Health and fitness should be more than the exercises we perform, or the counting of reps and sets. Although very important, they are but one element of living well, and being healthy. If you're really living well, you're also focused on your personal and nutritional health, weight management, stress, and individual health issues. However, I think what overwhelms most people is the struggle to pay attention to it all. We often get stuck at the very beginning and lack the tools to move further. How many times have I heard, "I know what to do, it's just doing it".

How do you move past merely thinking about what to do, to a place of action, a place of doing? You need a plan, one that is tailored to your specific needs and goals. As your Personal Trainer, I will work with you to create a fun, and highly effective program designed to meet your specific needs and goals. As your Wellcoach I will help you learn how to align your day so that you can move forward and be successful in all areas of a healthy life.

My desire to work as a Personal Trainer grew out of my love of sports. Since the age of 7 or 8 I've participated in sports in one form or another, from elite athlete to spectator. Interestingly, what I gained from that experience was not so much a love of competition, but a love of movement. I'm grateful every day for my ability to play and enjoy all that our wonderful valley has to offer. And as much as I enjoy my 'workouts' at the gym, they are merely a means to an end. I'm clear about why I exercise. I don't want to lose the ability to play.

My skills as a Personal Trainer continue to grow and evolve as life's experiences and my clientele continue to challenge what I know. I know the challenge of regaining fitness after childbirth (3 c-sections). I know improving your balance is harder than you may think, but can be accomplished with time and effort. I know exercise, in all the forms it can take, really is the cure for what ails you! I know eating should be an enjoyable experience, and that fat is good for all of us (and carbs are too). I know living well takes self-focus, time, and diligence. But why not live well? Why not live with boundless energy, freedom of movement, strength, stress free days, and restful nights? If exercise helps me get there then sign me up!!

I look forward to sharing my knowledge, enthusiasm, and support with you. Let me show you how to Live Well.

I received a B.S. in Fitness and Exercise Science and a B.S. in Physical Education from Central Washington University.  Choosing to be certified as Health and Fitness Instructor through the American College of Sports Medicine for the emphasis on special populations. Before training and managing the Fitness Department at Portland's premiere RiverPlace Athletic Club, I worked as a personal trainer at Pro Sports Club in Bellevue, WA.  I like to help people meet their  exercise and nutrition goals by designing complete programs.  I am experienced in metabolic diseases, orthopedic injuries, sport and event  training, group training, and weight loss.  While training at RiverPlace in Portland, I also assisted with teaching physical therapy patients their exercises for Providence Downtown Physical Therapy clinic.

During college, I worked as an Athletic Trainer for collegiate athletes, led fitness and exercise science classes, played soccer, and taught P.E. skills to children.  My variety of experience also includes seniors, joint replacement or reconstruction, and cancer survivors.

I have always loved working with pre and post-natal clients and it has been a very special interest since becoming a mom myself to a little boy in January 2008.

Athletics and fitness have always been important in my life and have contributed to my interest in performance training and rehabilitation.  Functional, "real life" movements are an important part of fitness for sport or just every day living.  In addition to personal training, I enjoy teaching fitness workshops and group exercise classes.   I still play soccer for fun and look forward to running, hiking and water skiing in the summers.

I love to incorporate new fitness industry ideas, equipment, and exercises into training for core strength and balance.  I will help any individual find the fun in fitness and achieve personal goals. Passion and inspiration are my gifts to all clients whether on the way to losing 5-100lbs or regaining fuction to participate in a favorite activity!

Coby Weidenbach

I am a product of a life surrounded by athletics and fitness.  I grew up a coaches son and have spent most of my life in a gym.  I have competed in college athletics as a football and basketball player and graduated from college in 2004 with a degree in Kinesiology.  I then spent 4 years teaching PE and coaching football, basketball, and track.  I recently moved to the Wenatchee area to be the assistant men's basketball coach at Wenatchee Valley College.  I have lived mainly in the northwest my whole life and the recent move to East Wenatchee was my 29th move.  I enjoy lifelong fitness and the joy physical activity can offer, activities I do while not at work include; hiking, fishing, snowboarding, wakeboarding, wake surfing, basketball, football, softball, mountain biking, swimming, and almost any other activity you can throw at me.

With my background in teaching and coaching I feel I can drive you to your maximum potential with great personal skills and motivation.  Having had the opportunity to work with a diverse group of people ranging from age 5 to age 65 I know how your body works and what it is capable of.    If your someone that would like to reach your fitness potential and just can't find a consistent program you enjoy or you just don't have the intrinsic drive I may be the person to get you on track and make your life more enjoyable through a fit and healthy lifestyle.  I love meeting new people in the Wenatchee area and would love to meet you.

I was always fascinated with muscle-men growing up and starting studying anatomy through art classes.  This lead to an interest into weightlifting and in high school I started power lifting with a passion.  Although well versed in lifting techniques, I injured myself in quite a few areas.  This left a question of what I did wrong.

After high school, I studied massage.  Realizing that I wanted to work with people actively, I decided to pursue the personal training industry instead.  Soon, I was linked to the knowledge of correct lifting and recovery techniques I had been previously seeking.  After receiving my certification, I sought out employment at 24 Hour Fitness in Spokane and trained there for the beginning of my career.

Moving back home, I started my own business training in a very small but lively gym.  Things couldn't have been better.  There I set up a circuit training program, which grew and became one of the main parts of my program.  I was also privileged to work with the high school wrestling team doing sports performance and corrective exercise.  Seeing theories I had been working on become proven motivated me to dig deeper into scientific rationale and advanced, alternative training methodology.

This led to more and more research and the creation of my program, Fitnnovation, which I directed out of an office of a gym and in homes here in Wenatchee for a little over a year.  Shortly after, I become the Director of Training for Fit City, LLC.  Continuing to research, I conducted case studies with my willing clients and further proved some amazing, yet contradictory theories.  I am still fascinated at what can happen by going a little further, and digger deeper to find the truth.

I believe that a fitness program needs to be fun, innovative, and always evolving to bring the best results to the client!  I was asked who my favorite client is, and my answer is someone who is ready to submit; to change; to apply the principles and be READY for the RESULTS!  I make a challenge to all those who are willing to accept, and I hold them to it.  On the same token, I guarantee results by committing to give the best service and information I have access to.

There are not many things in this world in which all walks of life can benefit from. Thick, thin, tall, short, rich or poor fitness benefits all and rewards one with as much result as you’re willing to put forward. I believe the biggest key to success in fitness is consistency. I find all too often people give up due to discouragement before the benefits of hard work are truly reached. It’s my goal as a trainer to provide you with the tools to reach your goals. Most everyone that walks through our doors knows what direction they want to set forth in but usually not know how to get there. My knowledge, schooling and passion are the keys to my clients reaching their goals. It’s my personal goal to not only allow clients the opportunity to work hard and reach personal success but do so in a fun environment.
I was raised in an environment of constant outdoor activity. Since a young age I have been hiking, fishing, hunting and participating in sports. I found fitness early on in high school to improve upon a genetically small frame in an effort to put on weight for sports. This mediocre goal quickly turned into a full blown passion. I soon found myself putting together programs for family, friends and myself engulfed in any knowledge I could get my hands on about fitness and nutrition. It didn’t take long for me to know this is what I was to make a career of.
I was certified through National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) in the spring of 2009 marking one of my biggest accomplishments to date. This journey in has blessed me with meeting countless new faces and endless new memories that will not soon be forgotten. It is not a goal but a guarantee that I will bring results to my clients. With hard work and constant encouragement we’ll reach goals and surpass set points together. It has long been a hope of mine to work for Gold’s Gym and I’m looking forward to bringing another piece to the puzzle here in the Wenatchee Valley.
