THE NEW JERSEY COALITION OF FITNESS PROFESSIONALS
MISSION:
To work together with the public and private sectors to improve the health, fitness and wellness of the residents of the State of New Jersey through a variety of programs and intiatives. To be advocates for the fitness industry in New Jersey and for the residents of the state.
VISION:
To make New Jersey the healthiest state in the nation.
HISTORY:
The New Jersey Coalition of Fitness Professionals was formed in 2006 by Pat Laus and Kevin McHugh of The Atlantic Clubs and Mike Epstein and Mark Steinfield of Gold's Gym to bring health clubs and fitness professionals throughout New Jersey together for the first time. The Coalition represents over 90 clubs throughout the state and works closely with The International Health and Racquet Association (IHRSA), which is the largest trade association in the fitness industry.
Together, The Coalition and IHRSA work directly with many of our state legislators and state lobbyists on several important issues that directly affect fitness enthusiasts in the state and fitness and related businesses in the state.
Some of these important issues included a campaign to repeal the state sales tax that was levied on health club memberships by then Governor Corzine in October 2006, proposed legislation regarding the regulation of personal training and proposed legislation regarding health club membership contracts.
Today, The Coalition continues to work closely with IHRSA, local and state officials and legislators as well as state and industry lobbyists to find ways to work together to accomplish it's mission. As avocates for the fitness industry and the residents of the State of New Jersey, Led by Pat Laus, Kevin McHugh and Mike Epstein, The Coalition remains steadfast in its vision of making New Jersey the Healthiest State in the Nation.
