WOODBRIDGE, VA (April 26, 2006) - Students at Lake Ridge Middle School (LRMS) in Woodbridge, Virginia have a new reason to look forward to their physical education classes this year.  Updating the standard physical education program with trendy group-exercise style classes, LRMS has implemented a groundbreaking youth fitness program for its students that is quickly gaining national attention.

Formatted by the Lake Ridge Gold's Gym, owned by Jeremy and Lori Lowell, a franchisee of Gold's Gym International, the world's largest co-ed fitness chain, the Gold's Gym Junior Fitness Program was created by ACE Certified Personal Trainers Dianne Hon and Corry Matthews, along with LRMS Assistant Principal, Dr. Sheila Huckstein, to teach students at an early age how to incorporate fitness into their everyday lives.  Matthews is also a member of the prestigious Gold's Gym Fitness Institute.

Due to budget cuts and a lack of funding throughout the nation, many physical education programs cannot adequately or effectively teach students how to attain a level of health and fitness to sustain them throughout their lives. The Gold's Gym Junior Fitness Program has set out to change the way children learn to be active. Hon and Matthews create new workouts for the students to participate in each month, with classes ranging from Boot-camp style interval training to mat Pilates, and everything in between. In addition to innovative exercises, the Gold's Gym Junior Fitness Program also includes nutrition awareness programs and health awareness information. At LRMS, even the teachers like to participate in the Gold's Gym Junior Fitness Program classes.

"The students are learning that they don't have to be an athlete to be fit," said Hon, who tries to incorporate exercises that the students can replicate outside of gym class.  "The Gold's Gym Junior Fitness Program shows students that there are numerous ways to stay fit."

With childhood obesity now considered a national epidemic, Gold's Gym International hopes to incorporate this program into schools throughout the country, showing children nationwide that fitness can be fun.
