I started my weight loss/fitness journey (again) January 1, 2007, my entire family struggles with obesity and I’m no different. I decided to join Gold’s Gym to incorporate weights into my exercise program. By August I had lost 65lbs. in which everyone told me it would be impossible because I was turning 40 during this time period. After deciding to try a couple classes I became addicted. I had a class schedule and never missed my favorites. My cycle instructor encouraged me to take the Instructor exam. I took the test in February 2010. In August 2010 I began teaching GGX Cycle at Gold’s Gym as a substitute and then got the chance to have my own class April 2012. Since then I have went through Les Mills training with some awesome instructors and trainers. I presently teach 3 Cycle Classes and 2-3 GRIT Classes per week. I’ve always wanted to get a college degree and have finally decided to attend college in which my goal is an AA Degree in Exercise Science.

What led you to group fitness? I joined the gym to incorporate weight training into my exercise regimen and decided to try several fitness classes and fell in love with them. My cycle instructor encouraged me to get certified to become an instructor myself
How do you spend your time outside of the gym? I run 25 miles a week with a group of gym members who have become some of my best friends, read, work 40 hour job and just started taking an online college course in pursuit of an AA Exercise Science Degree.
Some advice for our GGX class members: Don’t be afraid to try the classes just because you don’t think you can keep up or aren’t coordinated enough. There are options given for every class for all fitness levels. Plus try them several times to get the feel if you like them or not, also to give the instructor a chance because sometimes they can just be having an off day too. If you find something you enjoy don’t stop because your friend doesn’t enjoy the same class. I have met some of my best friends just from participating in the classes.
