I hear it all the time, Yoga is stupid. Yoga is lame. Yoga looks way too easy. Yoga couldn’t make me sweat if it tried. I laugh every time I hear something along those lines. I always think to myself, “Seriously friend, you are about as clueless to the world of Yoga, as I am to the world of Rocket Science!” Men are probably the biggest culprits of this crime. There was this one time I was at my mother-in-law’s house doing a Yoga DVD with her. We were in the zone, getting our Yoga on and then my father in-law walks around the corner and just laughs at us. He said, “I don’t understand why on earth y’all are doing all that stretching and wanting to say it is exercise.” About an hour and a half later when we finished with our living room Yoga session, my father in-law walks back in and his eyes got as big as tennis balls. He said, “Are you telling me you guys are sweating and breathing that hard, because of some stretching?” Obviously he wasn’t aware Yoga involves a bit more than “stretching”, but we let it slide.
That being said, I have to remind myself many people will only learn when they experience things hands-on for themselves. So, these people (maybe even you) don’t know that Yoga is actually one of the most beneficial ways to stay in shape!
