- Skipping breakfast: It has been shown in different studies that people who skip breakfast end up actually weighing MORE than those who do eat it on a regular basis. A healthy breakfast consists of fiber and protein-rich foods. The lighter and more filling foods that contain these two key nutrients will help keep you satisfied until it’s time for lunch!
- You wind up eating more when you skip meals: People do not just skip breakfast, they sometimes skip their lunch or dinner meals, as well, in a misguided attempt to lose weight. By doing this, they are actually encouraging themselves to eat more in one sitting than they would if they had spread out their eating throughout the day. By consuming all of their calories in one sitting, this causes the body to store the food instead of using it as a fuel source and being “burned off”.
- When you skip meals, the body goes into “starvation mode”: This means that on the rare occasion your body is being fed, it stores up the food that you DO give it and does not use it as fuel. Think of it as your body saying, “I don’t know when I will be fed again, so I better hold onto this food as long as I can.” There is another side to this, too. Your body could decide that it does not have enough fuel, so it begins to eat itself. By devouring the muscle tissue, your body starts looking and feeling weaker, as opposed to burning at peak efficiency if you were feeding it properly.
You have to eat properly to lose weight. Starving yourself is NOT the way to weight loss success.
