It’s finally here! Summer time is in full swing and you have worked SO hard to achieve the figure that you have now. You can FINALLY wear that bathing suit that has been taunting you or motivating you – however you want to view it. Not only can you wear it, you look spectacular in it!
Yet, you still worry about putting back on those pounds. How can you prevent that from happening? After all, you developed a new ability to practice self-control and you really advanced in your workouts; you didn’t do all that just to become overweight again, right? Heck no! Read below for a few tips that will help you keep that new and improved body looking right and tight!
1. Be careful with your choice of beach snacks.
It’s easy to just grab a bag of potato chips and toss them in your bag and head off to the beach. Sure you want easy and accessible, but you don’t want easy and junky. By having potato chips or cheese snack crackers at hand, you are subjecting yourself to potential mindless eating. Believe me. I have found myself at the beach before with friends and after just a couple of hours, we look at each other and say, “Where did the food go?” You end up mindlessly eating and talking and then before you know it, you have put away a family size bag of fried potato chips! Keep your snacking light. Things like sliced fruits, fresh vegetables and whole grain turkey wraps can be kept fresh in your cooler and they won’t pack on the pounds!
2. Keep Active
I know its extra hot out and you want to just lay on the couch under a fan and embrace the air conditioning, but resist it! The process of getting your current body required physical activity and to keep it you need to stay active! We have already established it’s hot, so why not do laps in a swimming pool? Go running at your state park and then cool off in the river or creek? There are plenty of options available to keep your cool and be physically active at the same time.
3. Watch your alcohol intake.
I enjoy a cold beer or mixed drink at the pool or beach just as much as the next person. HOWEVER, alcoholic drinks can really sneak the pounds on you. There is so much sugar that is packed into those fruity, sweet drinks. Sugar that will slowly turn into fat in your body. Don’t think you are in the clear with beer either. Beer is nothing but empty calories and will slowly, but surely, pack on the pounds. Keep water with sliced fruit on hand to stay hydrated. If you really need alcohol, keep your beers light and your liquor to a minimum. Something along the lines of a gin and tonic with lime.
4. Eating out
I know, I know, how can you go to the beach and not eat seafood? For me personally, I hate seafood, so it isn’t much of a struggle. But I have had many clients that just drool over the thought of crab legs with melted butter or fried fish baskets. I understand that going out to eat is part of the fun when on vacation, but you don’t have to sabotage your hard work! Instead of the fried and battered, go for the sautéed and grilled! Skip the butter and grease and say “no thank you” to those hush puppies and yes to the side of mixed fruit instead!
If you stay in check with the tips I have provided, you will have no issue keeping that summer figure! Eat light and right, stay active and be mindful of your drinking habits. Follow those key words of advice and you can enjoy your summer with no worries!
