Clean eating. You hear the fitness spokesmodel say it helps keep her in shape. Your trainer is always telling you that if you do it, that you’ll start seeing the results you want so badly. But what exactly does clean eating entail and why is it such a big deal?
What is Clean Eating?
Clean eating is defined by Fitness Magazine as “eating whole foods, or “real” foods — those that are un- or minimally processed, refined, and handled, making them as close to their natural form as possible.”
Basically its food that has not had any altercations done to it. Food that wasn’t created in a lab or packed with preservatives. It’s food that will start to decompose in less than a weeks’ time. Food that has been given to us by nature and grows from a plant or comes from an animal and isn’t changed with chemicals and additives.
What are some Examples of Whole/Real/Clean Foods?
When I studied nutrition, I learned an easy way to inform others of where to get the clean foods they needed. The secret? Staying away from the middle of the grocery store and spending your shopping time on the outside. Think about it, in the average grocery store, vegetables and fruits are on the outskirts of the market, as well as the dairy and fresh meats.
Fruits, vegetables, nuts and meats. Those are your prime sources for clean eating. If you want to kind of be pushing your limits, you can add in dairy products. But be careful. Cheese, yogurts and milk are commonly filled with preservative, artificial flavors and colors. So make sure you read your ingredients list thoroughly before you buy!
What are the Positives of Eating Clean Foods?
Food that has not been changed before it gets to us can benefit us in so many different ways. By not having artificial dyes, flavors or preservatives, clean food will provide us with a much higher chance of NOT being at risk for Cancer or disease.
We were put on this earth eating the food that was provided to us by the earth. That is why our ancestors lived so much longer than we did. Fresh fruits and vegetables and lean meats provide our body with the energy sources it needs to look, feel and perform to the best of its abilities! Processed foods will not give our body the nutrients it so desperately craves.
By eating clean, we are keeping our weight down, we can get better sleep and our energy levels are much, much higher.
I challenge you to give yourself 2 full weeks of eating nothing but clean unaltered food and water. No grease, no batter, no sauces or prepackaged snacks. Nothing but the foods we talked about in this article. After 2 weeks. I can GUARANTEE you will feel like a whole new person.
If you don’t believe me, see what one of my clients of over 3 years said about her experience after I suggested her trying clean eating for a couple of weeks…
“I had more energy and that helped me make better choices. It also helped keep me motivated. I felt better about myself and my head was so much clearer.”
