We all know that exercise is a key factor in losing weight and keeping it off. We’ve also had it engraved in our brains that physical activity is a necessity if we want to maintain a healthy and strong physical appearance. But there are SO many other beneficial reasons for you to get moving and stay active!
Take a look below so that you, too, can learn about some of the other reasons exercise is good for more than just weight loss:
1. Eating better will almost come naturally!
Studies show that those who wake up and start their day with a run or a workout routine are more likely to make healthier eating choices throughout their day. It will make you want to continue making choices that are better for your health as opposed to you risking sabotaging the hard work that you have already put in! You wouldn’t want to eat fried chicken fingers from a fast food place after putting in all that effort in a workout, would you? Heck no! You would want to know you were assisting your efforts with foods that will benefit you positively!
2. Stress will be a thing of the past!
Ah, stress. We all have it in some shape, form or fashion. The good news is that it can actually be managed by getting up and moving! I’m not a doctor by any means, but I am going to prescribe you some daily exercise so that you can relax, expel some built up energy and burn off some of the days annoyances! Who wouldn’t want to be prescribed something that isn’t a medication to fix an everyday feeling? Exercise can help fight off that angry monster many people have on their backs – depression. If you could make yourself happier just by adding 30-45 minutes of physical activity a day, why on earth wouldn’t you jump at the opportunity? Exercise keeps your brain busy and will help the hormone that causes stress (cortisol) at bay.
3. Back pain will cease to exist!
Did you know that over 100 million Americans suffer from chronic back pain? That’s right! 100 MILLION! If only more people knew there was a solution that didn’t involve chiropractors, braces or expensive massage therapy sessions. By adding in 2-3 days of light strength training, you can make a world of difference in how you feel every day. Wouldn’t you want to be able to get out of bed each morning and not feel stiff? Don’t you want to sit at your computer desk at work each day and not have to get up every 15 minutes to stretch? By exercising, you are not only aiding in prevention of future injuries due to weak back muscles, but you are helping to strengthen your muscles so that your everyday tasks can become much easier for you to accomplish.
4. Getting sleep won’t be a challenge!
Do you ever wonder why as a kid you could climb in bed and fall straight to sleep, but as an adult it seems to be quite the chore? Maybe it’s because as adults we have so many more responsibilities and we stay awake with our heads spinning about tasks that we need to make sure get completed. No matter what the reason, our sleep is no doubt nothing like it was after a stress free day spent running around outside with our friends.
Ah, that’s the answer! Just like when we were kids, we need to tire ourselves out through energy exertion! Exercise -no matter the type – tires us out and burns up our energy. Our bodies will crave the recovery they need to be able to do it all again the next day. The recovery? That would be your sweet, sweet sleep time!
