We all have our little quirks that bother us at the gym. Many times we go to the gym and see other members who do something that really just “grinds our gears”. These people do things that we can’t seem to wrap our heads around ever doing ourselves because we think these certain things are just common courtesy not to be doing!
But, what if the tables were turned? Think about it. Have you ever wondered if maybe YOU are the gym goer with bad manners? Maybe you are. Maybe you just have never been aware of your actions to know you could be just as guilty as those who get under your skin.
Take a look and see if you can relate to some of these gym goer no-no’s.
1. Leaving behind sweaty equipment.
No one, I repeat NO ONE wants to sit, lay, or stand where your leftover sweat pile has been abandoned. There is nothing worse than waiting patiently for your turn to use the weight bench and when you go to sit down, you see a GIANT circle of wet, drippy head sweat from the stranger who used it before you. Don’t be that person. Sure, most of us sweat when we work out – that’s normal! But, it’s just good etiquette to clean up after yourself for the next person who comes along. If your gym does not provide spray bottles with rags for your convenience, keep a small pack of antibacterial wipes in your gym bag specifically for these types of situations!
2. Being a free-weight hog.
You, just like many other gym goers, probably use more than one specific dumbbell weight for your various workout routines. The problem begins only when you start to “stock pile” the weights. What this means, is, you pick up all different types of weighted dumbbells and keep them right by your side. This in turn makes it quite a challenge for other free-weight users to go through their own workouts. Be mindful of others when it comes to picking out your free-weights. Set a good example by using one pair at a time and of course returning them to where you found them!
3. Using a cell phone on the workout floor.
In today’s world, almost everything we could ever need, can be provided to us through our cellphones. That being said, you may be one of the many people who use their phone for listening to music while you work out or to follow a written workout regimen. These are both very acceptable reasons to use your phone on the workout floor. What isn’t acceptable? Being the person who is keeping the machines nice and warm because you have taken so little time to use them for a workout, but so much time to answer back your text messages or have that nice long conversation with your old college roommate. There are plenty of other places to carry on your conversations. If you feel that you must stay in constant communication with all your friends while you are at the gym, do everyone a favor and walk away from all the gym equipment to continue your conversations.
The basic rule of thumb is that when you work out at the gym, behave as you would appreciate those around you to behave. Use this free VIP pass to come into Gold’s Gym and show off your gym manners with your friends!
