Cardiovascular exercise is definitely beneficial for us in many ways. What many people misunderstand, is that cardio is not the only physical activity we should have. It is to be incorporated into our full fitness regimen in addition to proper nutrition and weight and resistance training. Read below to see a few reasons cardio is important for us all!

You can ask almost any long distance, short distance or even treadmill runner what the most beneficial thing is about running and they are more often than not going to answer with “it’s such a stress reliever”. By doing your cardio, you are freeing your mind to focus on something else and focusing your energy elsewhere.
Running also increases the endorphins level in your body. And since endorphins are a major factor in feeling happy, running aids in giving you a better attitude!

Did you know that cardio is short for cardiovascular, which is referring to your heart. The heart is our life source. By keeping the heart actively working and strong, we are prolonging our lives by keeping ourselves healthy!
It Will Keep Your Legs Lean & Strong
Come on. You can’t tell me you haven’t noticed the girl on the treadmill or the guy running around campus and thought, “My gosh! Look at those legs! I would KILL to have legs like those!” Cardio activity such as running engages the majority of our leg muscles. Especially our calves! Don’t forget about that stair climber; it will help give you that nice toned and tight booty we all dream of!
It Keeps Your Metabolism At Its Best
The harder and more intense your cardio activity is, the better effect it has on your metabolic rate! Practicing challenging things like sprints and intervals have been proven to increase the metabolism in those who practice the actions routinely.
By having an increased metabolism, you are making it much easier for your body to (most commonly) lose weight or maintain a healthy weight!
So you see, cardio is great for many, many things! By skipping out on cardio work, you are missing out on all the positive things it has to offer your body and its overall health!
