There are many tips and tricks that people in the fitness world like to share when it comes to getting the best results possible for your target areas. But what are the important ones that you need to remember? Below I have listed my top 5 key things to remember when training your abs. Take a look!
1. Keep it tight!
When you are working your abs, its common practice to forget about keeping your core tight. When you are working this area, you want to make sure you squeeze and contract this area tightly. For example, in a plank position, you don’t want to be pushing your gut to the floor, you want to be pulling it up! Think as if you have a string connected to your belly button that goes out your back and someone is pulling that string. Your bellybutton should be pulling up to your spine for proper contraction.
2. Rome wasn’t built in a day!
Not only was Rome not built in a day, but neither are ANYONE’S abs! Great things take time! Any commercials or magazine articles that you read claiming to give you a six pack in a weeks’ time is flat out lying to you. To get the defined toned or cut look you have to be consistent, patient and disciplined. Don’t give up!
3. Slow and steady wins the race!
Just like when you are working other muscles in your body, your core muscles need to be worked slowly, too. By working the muscles slowly, you are causing more effort from them and thus causing more of a strain. That strain is what will give you the results you are looking for. Trying to speed through your ab workout isn’t going to get you anywhere.
4. Proper form is essential!
By having proper form, you are guaranteeing yourself the max results that can come from the workout t you are doing. The problem with improper form, is that it can cause damage (sometimes permanent) and it will end up getting you extremely frustrated because you won’t be seeing the results you are looking for. Put pride into your workouts! If you do, you will be MUCH happier with what you see in the mirror than if you went the lazy route and were sloppy.
5. Muscles don’t forget; make a change!
Muscles have a memory too, did you know that? After a while of doing the same ab routine over and over that they are familiar with, they get bored! Get your muscles attention by putting variety into your ab routine. By adding variety and changing up your routine every now and then, you are making it tougher for your body to work and that will in turn you the best results!
