Well, the secret weapon is no other than…water! Water is one of the most underutilized sources for successful weight loss. Read below to see what kind of benefits water can offer you on your weight loss journey!
Get more out of your workouts
- Studies have shown that people who don’t drink much water are more likely to do less repetition during their workout, as opposed to someone who is drinking water regularly. Those same people who drank less water seemed to feel more tired more quickly, too. By sacrificing your repetitions during your workout, you are also sacrificing potential calories that could have been burned!
Prevent overeating: Do you ever find yourself trying to decide if you are genuinely hungry for a snack or just bored? Next time this situation comes up, drink an entire glass of water first. It has been shown that drinking a full glass of water can trick the brain into thinking you are full.
- By drinking a glass of water, you aren’t costing yourself any calories. But, if you are mindlessly snacking through the day, you are consuming a lot of unneeded calories that will definitely contribute to weight gain.
- Also, drinking a glass of water before you sit down to a meal out at a restaurant prevents yourself from overeating the unhealthy appetizers your friends ordered!
Reducing bloat and discomfort: As unglamorous as this is going to sound, it really is a very valuable tip. Water is a mega aid in terms of helping us with digestion.
- It’s not pretty, but simple: impacted bowels lead to constipation. Constipation leads to being bloated and carrying around unnecessary extra weight. By continuously drinking water throughout the day, you will keep your digestive system regular and keep the unsightly bloating at bay.

When I advise my clients that they need to be consuming more water through the day, I often hear, “But I really just don’t like water. It’s just so bland and I get so bored with it.”
There is a quick and easy fix! By adding in fruit to your water, you can flavor your water naturally. This way, you are avoiding harmful chemicals and sugars from those pre made drink flavors and sweeteners that are so popular.
My personal favorite way to flavor water is by adding mint leaves and lemon slices! It is so clean and refreshing! You will really feel like your benefiting yourself when drinking this way. The easiest way to add fruit into a pre bottled water bottle in my experience is by using a “Voss” brand water bottle. It has a very wide open mouth to easily add in large slices of fruit. But, it’s not a magic potion!
Now, as much as I hate that it is not the case, water DOES NOT have a magic potion in it that will help make all of your fat just melt away. The good news is that water is definitely a big contributor in aiding with weight loss in many ways!
