If you are like many people you have either taken a Group Fitness class or have thought about participating in one. Your friends have been begging you to go with them to class but you are afraid you will “look stupid” or “people will stare”. Hey, it’s NORMAL to feel that way, but your worries are unfounded. Read below and see if these common concerns sound familiar and see how the realities will make you feel more at ease!
- Stressing about what others think
This is SO very common; so don’t think that you are the only one who has this worry. This thought is probably the #1 reason that keeps people away from taking Group classes. You worry that people will stare at you because you might not know what you are doing or that people will judge you because you “aren’t coordinated at all”. I PROMISE you, you are seriously the least of everyone’s worries in Group class. Group classes are exactly that – they are a Group of people that are all there for the same thing. Do you really think that everyone started off that class feeling super confident? Heck no! At one point, they were JUST LIKE YOU! Group classes are meant to be fun and full of camaraderie. Like I said, everyone else is in there for the same reason as you and at one point started in your shoes. Get in there and do your thing! You won’t know what you’re missing out on if you don’t give it a shot.
- Worrying your physical limitations will prohibit you from doing the moves
Great news! This is an excuse that can be kicked out the door immediately! Why am I so confident? Well, one of the reasons Group Fitness classes are so great is because they are pretty much suitable for everyone! If you have a great class instructor (like our AMAZING Group Fitness Instructors at Gold’s Gym Douglasville), you can put your concerns to rest. Group Fitness class leaders are qualified to do their job. They go to conventions, take classes and get certifications so that they stay knowledgeable on the body and what can and cannot be done with it. By having a great instructor, you are assured that the class will offer both advanced moves AND basic moves. So, if you have a knee or shoulder injury that prohibits you from moving a certain way, don’t let that stand in your way. If your class instructor doesn’t show a regression for your specific issue, don’t worry! If you walk up to him or her after class, the instructor will be more than happy to help talk you through what moves would be right for you next time. Really! They want to see you in their class.
Now is your time.
