Why is real talk about weight loss so hard to find?
Nothing is worse than being in the dark about life-changing fitness information. If you could make a few easy changes to your daily routine and get one step closer to reaching your health and fitness goals, wouldn’t you? Let me tell it like it is:
- Diets are pointless. Lifestyle change is key: Diets are pointless? That may sound extreme, but if you really took the time to think about it, I think you might just agree with me. If you have ever been on a diet, you are one of the many who have probably experienced the “yo-yo” effect. What is that? It’s when a dieter works hard and stays extremely dedicated to a specific way of eating and then stops their extreme efforts only to go back to their old bad habits. This type of behavior is terrible for the human body: Losing, gaining, gaining, losing. Our bodies can only handle so much of that dysfunction. Weight loss achieved in a healthy and correct way takes time! Be one of the few who will earn the success of a new body by being patient. After all, it took you a while to put that weight on; it’s going to take you a while to take it off! Keep up healthy eating habits along with daily exercise and you have a recipe for the lifestyle it takes to lose weight and keep it off!
- Instead of a scale, use a tape measure and use it often: The number on the scale, on its own, cannot tell you that you have lost body fat or gained body fat. Truthfully, when you step onto your scale and see your weight number go up a couple of pounds, it could potentially be because you have put on some lean muscle mass that replaces that pesky body fat you have been trying to rid yourself of for a while. By measuring the common trouble areas such as the hips, thigh, upper arm and belly, we can see where our inches are coming and going. This will give a better indicator of success. Another great tip is to base your weight loss or muscle gain on how your clothes look on you when you take a glance in the mirror! Remember, the scale does not always tell the whole story.
