Remember, a pre-workout snack is a good thing.
In a previous post, I wrote about the positive effects eating before a workout had on your body. Let’s explore 3 foods that make great pre-workout snacks and why they are beneficial for you:
- Whole wheat bagel with a drizzle of honey: This option contains the kind of carbs that are needed for a sustainable source of energy. The whole wheat bagel is an example of a complex carb. Complex carbs take a longer time to burn in our bodies; therefore, they provide us with more energy for an extended period of time.
- Greek Yogurt: Plain Greek yogurt has both the protein and carbohydrates needed for extended energy in a workout. It also contains less sugar than the other types of yogurt you may see that are out on the market. Greek yogurt is the epitome of a perfect snack source when you are preparing for a workout that is more on the “intense” side. Jumping and plyometric type work will especially benefit from a high-fueled food source.
- Bananas: Often referred to as one of nature’s best sources for providing energy, bananas are packed slam full of beneficial nutrients that an active body needs, such as potassium and easily digestible carbs. Thanks to their potassium, bananas also help keep up proper muscle and nerve functions.
There you have it: three of the best pre-workout foods you can choose before you take on your workout.
