Stay Hydrated by Stopping by our Smoothie Bar at Gold’s Gym!
Every time you come to our fitness center in Culpeper, VA, there’s a simple thing you can do to make your workouts more effective and make your body better overall — stay hydrated!
When you are working out here at Gold’s Gym Culpeper, VA, we love to see you sweat. It means you are working hard at staying in shape. But when your body loses fluids, it’s vital to replenish them. So we have some tips for you on ways to do that.
The first is the most obvious — water, water, water! Good old H2O is a great go-to when you need to refresh, replenish, and rehydrate. Keep a bottle of water with you at all times and sip often. Many of our exercise and cardio training machines have holders where you can stash your bottle, and you are always welcome to keep one on the floor during our group fitness classes (just make sure it’s safely out of the way so no one trips over it).
The rule of thumb to follow is seven to ten ounces of water for every twenty minutes you spend exercising at the gym. It’s advisable to sip small amount throughout if you can, but hydrating after is also alright. Just try not to gulp it all down at once. That can make you nauseous, which is the last thing you want after a good workout.
While water is the obvious choice and a great option, it’s not the only option out there. Nor should it be — water gives you hydration but that’s not all your body needs when you are working out. When we head to the health club to work our muscles and work up a sweat, our bodies lose more than just water. We also lose electrolytes — important minerals that help the body absorb water (among other important functions). So replacing those electrolytes is key. Sports drinks are a good option, but if you are looking for a more natural alternative, try coconut water or electrolyte-enhanced water.
Replacing electrolytes should be done following 40 minutes of exercise or if you are training in a more intense manner than you normally would — such as training for a marathon. And just like with water, mid-workout sips are always a good idea.
Whether you bring your own water or try one of the options we offer in our Island Oasis Smoothie bar, make sure you make hydration part of your physical fitness program. You’re working your body, so give it the fuel it needs to keep going.
