Born in England to Jamaican parents, I grew up in Jamaica and migrated to the US in 1984. I’ve been physically active most of my life, ballet classes from age 5 to 18, even teaching beginner ballet classes to 5 year olds. Once I moved to the US I joined a gym (Spa Lady) and took group fitness classes. When I moved too far away from a gym I bought video tapes and worked out in my basement. After I had my first child at age 38yrs I joined the newly opened Golds Gym in Crofton in my neighborhood and got hooked on the step and kickboxing classes. After having my second child at 40yrs I added Body Pump and Body Combat classes to help me lose the baby weight and get the best abs I’ve ever had. Over the years at Golds in Crofton, I had been approached several times about becoming an instructor but between young kids and a full time job there was never enough time to make the commitment. In 2007 I was downsized and it was the perfect time to get certified while I decided what to do next. I got certified and started teaching Body Combat once a week. Now at 55 years old I teach 7 classes a week and am looking forward adding a SPRINT class once it’s launched in Bowie or Crofton.

Some advice for our GGX class members: Beginners start slow. Don’t expect to perform at the same level as regulars. Keeping trying different classes and different instructors until you find the combination that works for you.
