Kaya was born and raised in the Philippines before moving to Maryland as a teen. Her Filipino upbringing included a deep love for dance, which led her to take her very first Zumba (and group fitness) class at Gold’s Gym-Bowie in 2011. A few years and 50 pounds later, she became inspired by other amazing Gold’s Gym instructors to become certified in Les Mills BodyPump and Zumba, and she hopes that through her classes, she can inspire and help other members to meet their fitness goals.

Classes you currently teach: Les Mills BodyPump, Zumba
What led you to group fitness? I started as a (very hesitant) group fitness participant a few years ago and was immediately inspired by the awesome instructors at Gold’s Gym to achieve my fitness goals. Wanting to pay it forward, I became an instructor to help others who have similar goals as I have.
How do you spend your time outside of the gym? Other than being a proud member of the Gold’s Gym GGX family, I work full-time as a digital analyst for an international news organization. For fun, I love spending time with my family and friends, and I have been training on my long-distance running.
Some advice for our GGX class members: Work out because you love your body, not because you hate it; that kind of motivation is far more effective and long-term than wanting to change your body aesthetics. More importantly, be kind to yourself. We are often our harshest critics, and we need to cut ourselves some slack, especially when we’re doing the best we can with what we have.
