I did not exercise regularly until I was 30. I joined a local gym and walked mostly during my first pregnancy. After that, I was hooked on group fitness. I loved Step, sculpting classes, and boot camp style classes. The step instructor left and I became hooked on kickboxing and the energy of this young instructor. I joined Gold’s Gym in Crofton and began taking Body Step, Body Combat, Body flow and loved those formats and the energy and consistency in those classes. I became an instructor after pondering it for over a year. I remember borrowing a body step DVD and trying to learn a song and thinking…. “I can never do this”. About a year later, I signed up for Body Flow training and then a few months later, Body Combat. Those were my first two classes when the Bowie Gym opened – one on Wednesday night and one on Wednesday morning. Every year or two, I have added additional formats to challenge myself and expand the programs across our gyms. I love the relationships at the gym. I love how group fitness creates an environment where people want to connect and check up on each other. I hate it when members go missing and I wonder and worry about where they might be. I enjoy the conversations before and after class. I coach GRIT now and love the extra connection and workout that it provides to the members. We run it in teams and over 9 week sessions to really see a change. I love seeing the fitness and health changes in the members doing GRIT. I enjoy being an instructor with Gold’s because of the members and because of the strong team of instructors that care about each other and our members.

How do you spend your time outside of the gym? I typically spend time each day learning new choreography for the classes that I teach. In my free time, I like spending time with family and friends – boating on the Chesapeake Bay, touring the Baltimore/Annapolis/DC area, travelling, spending time with my family
Some advice for our GGX class members: Try a variety of classes. Give them multiple chances and then choose a program that meets your schedule and that you enjoy. That will keep you coming back. Be patient in the classes. It takes some time to get used to the moves in each class. I love the Les Mills programs and the variety that we offer at Gold’s Gym. I love the connection that the instructors have with the members. I believe our instructors really care about each member and take time to make each class a good experience for all.
