It’s human nature to compare. We all do it. Whether it’s on occasion or a frequent occurrence, it’s easy to get caught up in comparisons, especially when you’re trying to improve your fitness. We look to others to pave a path and want to draw inspiration from success stories. Comparison seems to be a natural behavior along the way. Unfortunately, this can create a huge obstacle in your journey and impact your gym confidence. Sure, it’s important to find inspiration and observe how others are succeeding. We all get confused or doubtful at times and need reassurance as to how we should proceed in the gym and kitchen.
But it’s crucial to be aware of how different each of us is. Fitness comparisons involving technique or progress can aggravate our insecurities and self-doubt. And when these mental challenges arise, it’s harder each day to make a positive change.
If you are one of the many who struggle in this area…
Here are 2 tips to help you gain gym confidence avoid fitness comparisons:
- Edit your inspiration: It’s important to limit who and what you’re drawing inspiration from. Find people and situations that are relatable, authentic and motivating. Then use this as energy to fuel your own efforts.
- Celebrate your uniqueness: There isn’t a magic formula or pill that works for everyone. We all are different and have intricate genetics and metabolisms. Your body might not transform the way your friends’ bodies do, despite the same steps. Learn to focus on your strengths and uniqueness and channel your efforts into these areas. Find your path and stay focused on it.
Shifting your attention from others and their behaviors takes considerable effort. It isn’t always natural. But it’s important to find inspiration and then take it inward on your own journey. Trust your process and you’ll undoubtedly achieve success as a result!
